Russia plans to produce 2 mln COVID-19 vaccines/month in 2020

MOSCOW, Aug 24 (PRIME) -- Russia should produce 1.5–2.0 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine per month by the end of the year, Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov told channel Zvezda in an interview broadcast on August 23.

"Three facilities -- Binnopharm, R-Pharm and Generium will join the effort. We assume that capacity of about 30,000 vaccines will be reached this month, until the end of August,” Manturov said.

“We will raise the amount several times starting from September, including the companies that will join, and production will reach 1.5–2.0 million doses per month by the end of the year, gradually rising to a total of 6 million per month."

The Healthcare Ministry registered the world’s first coronavirus vaccine on August 11. At first, the Gamaleya institute and pharmaceutical company Binnopharm will produce the vaccine, but R-Pharm and Generium will soon join them. Multi-industry holding Sistema said that Binnopharm’s capacities allow it to produce 1.5 million doses of the vaccine per year, and that it planned to start mass production until the end of 2020.
